When and where are the con, again?
July 14-16, 2006, at the Montclair Conference Center, Montclair State University, Montclair NJ. (We know this won't be convenient for everyone; we hope this will be the first annual Prog Faith Blog Con, and next year's con will be in a different part of the country entirely.)
How do I get to the con?
For those who will be flying, the nearest airport is Newark International, which is also known as Newark Liberty. The airline abbreviation is EWR. Blog con organizers will run van service to and from the airport for those flying and in need of local transportation.
The con will be at the conference center at Montclair State University, on the corner of Valley Road and Normal Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey, one mile south of the junction of Routes 3 and 46. Here are directions to Montclair State University, by car, train, and bus.
And for directions to the con hotel, go here and click on "location and driving directions."
Where do I stay?
We recomend the Wellesley Inn and Suites on Route 3 in Clifton. The cost for a room is $71.00 per night (plus tax). That includes a continental breakfast and wireless service at the hotel. To get the discounted room rate, you must dial (973) 778-6500 and ask for the "Montclair Visiting Rate." That gives you a fairly substantial reduction from their $99 per night regular price. For those who are comfortable being driven, we'll have vans moving back and forth from the hotel to the conference center at convenient times throughout the weekend.
For Jewish bloggers who are shomer Shabbat: This hotel is not walking distance from the con, and we're aware that that's a problem for some folks! Limited on-campus housing is available for those who need to stay on-site, which will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need to stay on-site for religious reasons, email us and we'll arrange for your lodging. We're also investigating the possibility of Shabbat homestays in the local Jewish community which will be walkable to the con. We'll keep you posted.
What does my registration fee cover?
The conference registration fee ($25 in advance; $45 at the door) will pay for food during the weekend, registration materials, and of course the blog con experience. Food provided will include: dinner on Friday night, coffee Saturday morning, lunch on Saturday, and a Saturday afternoon snack. Food service will include vegetarian options.
As mentioned above, hotel rooms at the Wellesley Inn cost $71/night, which includes breakfast and wireless access.
Attendees will only be independently responsible for dinner on Saturday night.
Who's coming to the con, anyway?
There's a list of known attendees online here,
and we'll update it as we know more.
Is there financial aid?
Yes. We have a limited pool of funds to disburse to bloggers who want to join us but can't afford the con.
The scholarship application is available here.
What if I can't be there in person?
We'll miss you terribly, but never fear: you can still participate in some ways. We're working on arranging live chat during the con, so remote folks can follow along with the conversations and can chime in via chat. Hopefully folks will also liveblog the con while it's happening. We'll keep you posted.
Can I have a banner to put on my blog/website?
Absolutely! We have three banner graphics, different sizes and shapes, which you're welcome to post anywhere you like. You can find them here.
If you have questions which weren't answered by this FAQ page, let us know and we'll answer them!
